Abstract:The outflow channel of the Huaihe River into the Yangzte River is the main flood discharge channel in the Huaihe RiverBasin, which receives more than 70% of the flood in the upstream and midstream of the river. Based on the diserved data fromthe outlets into the Yangtz River including the sluices of Wanfu, Taiping and Jinwan in recent 60 years,, this paper analyzed thevariation of the flood discharge capacity in the control channel of the Huaihe River into the Yangtze River according to the waterlevel, discharge and flow velocity. The discharge at the designed water level was derived from the relationship between the annnualmaximum discharge high-flow year and the concerned maximum water level, which was then compared with the designed discharge. The result shows that: (1) there is no significant change of flood discharge capacity over the years; (2) the actual flood dis -charge capacity of the Wanfu sluice has reached the design standard, and the flood discharge capacity of the sluices of Taipingand Jinwan have basically met the design requirements.
