Abstract:The time series of monthly runoff and sediment load at the Waizhou Station on the Ganjiang River from 1960 to 2008 andfrom 1966 to 2007 were analyzed respectively with the methods of coefficient of unevenness, completely adjustment coefficient, concentration degree (period) and Mann - Kendall rank correlation test. The results show that: 1) Generally, the annual runoff andsediment load distribution reached a maximum in July at the Waizhou Station, and the curve of them have a single peak value exceptthe curve of sediment load of 1980s and 1990s have a bimodal distribution. 2) The variation of concentration degree and unevenness ofmonthly runoff and sediment load have the same trend of decreasing decadally, which indicats that the annual runoff and sediment loadhave become well -distributed. The possible causes are the construction of reservoirs, the conservation of soil and water and theartificial sand mining etc. 3) The runoff distribution in flood-season and non-flood season have a stationary trend, while the sedimentload presents a downward trend. The amplitude of variation in flood season is distinctly greater than that in non-flood season.
