Abstract:During 2009-2010,Bureau of Hydrology of MWR introduced to the muli-=sensor quantitative precipitation estimationsystem of next-generation(Q2) developed by the NOAANational Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL). Q2 was transformed into weatherradar application system (MWRQ2) for quantitative precipitation estimation experiment in the Huaihe River Basin and the midle-reach of Yellow River. The MWRQ2 integrates 6 Chinese new generation weather radar (CINRAD),rain gauge,and atmospherieenvironmental data and generates a suite of precipitation products in real-time on 0.01×0.01"(1kmxlkm) grid mesh at 10-minuteupdate frequency, and the area rainfall (1,3,6,12,24,48,72h) of the sub-catchment was also calculated synchronously.Thispaper described the components and key technology of the system. The area rainfallresulted from MWRQ2 was analyzed wih theconventional rain gauge data. The results indicate that rainfall estimated with the two methods has good consistency , especially thetime-interval area rainfall.
