The urban surface runoff pollution is one of the main reasons of water pollution, and one of the main pollution sources of the urban river as well. Identification and control of urban runoff pollution is of vital importance in the control of urban water environment at present. The Shahe River is a secondary tributary of the Yangtze River, flowing through a district in Yichang City, in which the water quality is relatively bad. As a research object, the district was divided into different underlying surfaces. And then, by monitoring the pollutant concentration from the different underlying surface runoff in various durations, a calculation method for estimation of the pollutant load from surface runoff is set up, which offers the basis for reducing non-point source pollution in urban area and controlling pollution in urban rivers.
