Database of range survey is established and used to study the deposition or erosion in the Lower Yellow River.A software program(RGTOOLS)is developed for management of the data obtained through range surveys in nearly50years.It is also used to evaluate the amount and distribution of deposition or erosion in the Lower Yellow River.Volumetric method is used for computation of the amount of deposition.Spatial and temporal variations of the deposition are studied and illustrated with drawings created by EXCEL program that is directly interfaced with RGTOOLS.It is found that a total of6.44billion m 3 were deposited in the Lower Yellow River in nearly half a century. The pattern of deposition varies in response to the variation of the oncoming flow that is influenced by natural climatic variations and also by reservoir operation.
