Abstract:Serious ice regime in the Inner Mongolia reach of the Yellow River often takes place during winter frozen period and spring break-up period and leads to serious disaster.Thus creating favourable frozen position and break-up position are very important to avoid ice flooding.Since the Liujiaxia Reservoir was put into operation in 1968, the adverse ice conditions in the Inner Mongolia reach have been greatly alleviated. However, serious ice flooding has continued to occur in some years because the reservoir is not very sensitive to ice flood changes in relatively long river course from the Innedr Mongolia reach. On the basis of analyzing frozen and break-up position characters, acting capability of Haibowan Reservoir on ice regime control operation in the Inner Mongolia reach in this paper. It would provide scientific decision gist for ice regime control regUlation in the Inner Mongolia reach of the Yellow River.
