This paper studies the discharge hydrograph separation methods, discusses the concept of base flow, and gives a reasonable definition of base flow. Several discharge hydrograph separation methods are analyzed and the existing problems are pointed out. These methods are compared by means of analyzing physical cause, runoff yield and flow concentration laws.
